Yoga is a Hindu discipline
aimed at training the consciousness for a state of
perfect spiritual insight and tranquility. It
incorporates a system of exercises practiced as part
of this discipline to promote control of the body
and mind. Yoga is a practical aid, not a religion.
It's an ancient art based on a harmonizing system of
development for the body, mind and spirit. The
continued practice of yoga is said to lead to a
sense of peace and well-being, and a feeling of
being at one with the environment. The practice of
Yoga makes the body strong and flexible. It also
improves the functioning of the respiratory,
circulatory, digestive, and hormonal system, and is
also said to bring about emotional stability and
clarity of mind.
DO NOT BE
INTIMIDATED!
It is a myth that you have to have a certain body
type to participate in Yoga. Every body is
unique, and our classes are designed so that
everybody will benefit, yet participants are free to
follow along at their own pace. Each of us are at
different levels of strength and flexibility, thus,
we do not expect everybody to be able to perform
every technique. For instance, the webmaster is
built like a penguin, and he can not do the exercise
pictured below. |
